My view this morning as the sun rose...beautiful, silent, snow!

And a quick look into my Winter Wonderland journal...

Welcoming in Winter

Welcome WInter!  You are late!

 But we are, at least today, happy to see you!

 It now looks like the holidays here in New England.

 

So I've spent a snowy afternoon in the studio

enjoying the snowfall from my window...

Can I just say this makes me very happy...

this is me working in three different journals at one time...

 

Let's hear a shout out for snow days!!!

Snowflakes are featured.

 Gosh I wish we had some...mid December in New England

and there are none...chances of a white Christmas seem quite slim.  

Not that I wish for a full blown snow storm but I would like a few

snowflakes to make it more festive.  

We could all use that right now.

Playing with Chalk this morning

Decorating the large chalk board for the holidays this morning, such fun!  I use Chalk Ink rather than traditional chalk.

 It lasts forever and there's no need to worry if someone brushes against it-no smears, no chalky clothes.  

Comes off the board easily with a wet paper towel.

Mother Nature provides a gentile reminder...

In the midst of such sadness for our country,

Mother Nature gives gifts to remind us of the pure beauty around us..

While I baked Christmas cookies this afternoon

(hoping for some normalcy of routine)

this was my view out the windows 

 

Peaceful, calm, confident

Unfazed by the barking Miss Maggie

 

And the children came too...

content to eat the drops from the bird feeders...

It's not much

but I felt better watching them...

And I am thankful for my woods and all that come to visit.

A light in the darkness

 

Such sadness,

as a Parent,

thankful for two adult children...who are healthy and safe..

As a teacher,

who looks into sweet inquisitive faces,

full of promise,

my heart is heavy.  

Somehow the powers that be in Washington

MUST

 find a way to stop this madness.

 

 

 

No More Excuses~Under the Influence of Frida Kahlo

December's featured artist is Frida Kahlo.  

I know, I know, December has just begun...but it is Christmastime and there is so much to do.  So rather than put this off, I decided to plunge right in and complete the entire month early.  I hate unfinished projects and the next few weeks will be filled with shopping, decorating, baking, parties, wrapping...all those wonderful activities of the season. 

Frida Kahlo

An entire body of work , for the most part, composed of self portraits.

Such an interesting and difficult life.

 I do wonder how different her art might have been were it not rooted in

the expression of her physical pain after such a horrendous accident... 

 

Most definitely an independent spirit!

An affinity for all things in nature.

And a clear obsession with death.

My No More Excuses~Under the Influence book

is now fabulously fat and lovely!

 There are a few blank pages at the end

that I will continue to "play" with as free time allows.
