Last year for my 60th birthday my DH gifted me a water garden !
We have had a small pond for years, the time has come to step it up
in both size and design. As we all well know...time flies! As my next birthday will soon be here this past few weeks we started contruction.
DH insisting that he will dig the entire hole himself sets to work!
In this part of New England rocks and ledge under the ground are a constant battle.
There are always surprises uncovered.
This is the beginning of what will be a massive waterfall feature.
Cool, isn't it? Well it doesn't look like much here...
Getting there...little by little. Keeping in mind that this has been a ridiculously hot humid and rainy summer here...hard work!
Accidental pond filling! Oh No!
We awoke early after a nasty thunderstorm to find this...
Lesson learned.
Entire pond tarped.
Miss Maggie explores her new swimming pool...
We aren't quite sure how she got in there and it was a chore removing her...
This week reenforcements arrived and with additional and knowledgable hands
we laid the clay sand.
Next the felt liner goes on top.
Lest we forget, this is hard work and a wee bit complicated...
After placing the 300 lb liner...yes that heavy, it is a large pond, in goes the water!!
See the large pile of rocks? We have two tons worth that are gradually being moved into place. Although quite heavy, this is the fun part. Still lots to do!
Yesterday DH connected the plumbing and tested the flow for the waterfall, as yet unconstructed. I'm sure the fish in the old pond are getting excited about their new home! More unveiling as the weekend begins.
The plan is to have in finished by Sunday night. Planting will then commence.
Stay tuned for further adventures in ponding!
