I love my Kindle!

It needed a "home" for travel protection

and well just to make it look cool...

a few craps and a little time with my best friend bernina and

Ta Da!  

I've been stitching in Parisian mood

 

Did I mention I love Paris!  

 

I've had the pleasure to wander her streets many times.  

Kaari Meng at The French General has designed a line of french inspired fabrics for Moda, beautiful rich colors and patterns.  She is one talented lady.  I'm stitching a quilt with the lumiere de noel collection.  Fabric is really my first "love"; it's all about texture and color.   Gone are the days when I made countless bed size quilts completely by hand.  I now work on a smaller scale and use my trusted friend Bernina to piece and occasionally machine quilt.  When completed this quilt will be just the right size for cuddling this winter.

I had an opportunity to take a class from the lovely and talented Nina Bagley at Artfest in 2008.  The task, to create a "gathering" on a book cover embellished as chosen by each individual.  The covers are stacked and tied with ribbons to form a book.  I came home with several covers and have been adding to my gatherings as the spirit moves...and time allows.  

Yes, there are flip sides to each of these.  Perhaps for another day!

Traveling and Time

I live a dual existence..a home in a beautiful coastal Rhode Island village...

 

 

and an apartment in mid-town Manhattan.

 

I spend a lot of time traveling back and forth on the train.  I do not "sit" well, I am happiest when my hands are busy.  Lucky me, I've usually got some project underway but for train travel, it must be small and not messy.  Happy day I found Rebecca Ringquist's Drop Cloth Samplers and have been stitching my way back and forth from Rhode Island to New York!  

On today's journey I will begin her next offering..the cake sampler.  Interested?

Crafting an itty bitty treasure box

I love these little beauties!  So many possibilities for embellishment! They are available at many craft stores.  Easy to make if you have roving and felting needles but that's a story for another day.  

 In our household felted balls are also the cat toy of choice.  The mere sound of the jar lid turning brings the kitties running.  And they like to hoard them as well.....I rarely get them back.  

Now on to the itty bitty treasure box.  Scraps of fabric from a previous project, machine quilted, cut to six sided shape, hand sewn into a cube and then the fun begins.  Embellished heavily with ribbon and yarn scraps, wire,  fabric yo-yo, a sweet silver charm, AND the fuzzy felted balls which even serve as feet.

 

If this doesn't say WHIMSY I don't know what does!!! In fact so cute it must be stored high on a shelf as it too has been dragged away to hiding by a certain unnamed cat.
