After one of the mildest winters in recent memory, seems "normal" has returned. Heavy wet snow coats everything and unfortunately the landscape has taken a hit.
Poor birds have been working hard to keep warm and find seed with the feeders coated in ice and snow.
The resulting sunsets have been spectacular!
I've kept busy in the studio painting snow as well...well snowy owls!
So many pretties in the garden in spite of the very chilly weather (it actually snowed in the northern part of the state this morning)!
Gathered a few pansies and made hammered prints. I love the rich color. Would you like to give it a try? Place pansy face down on watercolor paper, cover with waxed paper. Gently hammer to smash the pigment into the paper. remove waxed paper and any pulp residue. Let dry. Fabulous !!

Clearly the pattern of repeated winter storms continues here in New England...at this point a yard stick won't do to measure all the snowfall....It is winter,and this is coastal New England. All this snow should be no surprise. We've been spoiled of late with mild winters, not so this year.
Adirondack chairs hold the promise of Spring, a reminder that winter too will pass soon...All those footprints in the snow are from the deer and other critters who come seeking food...the snow is too deep for a reasonable person to venture to the woods.

The advantage of all this snow is an opportunity to spend lots of time in the studio, and so I have.

And now off to the market for bread and milk, because for some unknown reason that's what we do when a storm warning is issued. A very happy Valentine's Day to you!
It's been quite a week for weather! First a blizzard and now extremely bitter cold with another storm on the way...
Which does not mean the garden and woods have been silent! I had quite the stare down with this buck, I think he won..
We've had lots of visitors looking for food and warmth. Youngsters watching me watch the above Buck.
Sometimes the best you can do is puff up and hide in a shrub against the house.
There is such beauty in a winter day.

Although it's been quite warm the lettuces in the veggie garden keep producing such a colorful display, and tasty too.
My awesome nephew Robbie helping out in the pond. Quite willing for an adventure deadheading the lily pads. To my surprise he also discovered an enormous number of fish eggs! Quite the keen eye.

A lovely gift from Judi that expresses this perfectly. We are making great progress planting the pond. It's a delight to watch greenery emerge from the water. Soon I'll post pictures of wonderful blooms.
Sketchbook Skool semester 1 has ended. What a great experience! Sketching with Tommy Kane was quite a process, encouraging hours focused on a single scene and adding all the details...much to learn but getting there.

And here is her new "happy place". She loves to lay in the stream under the waterfall to the pond and soak... She needs a helping hand to get out but we are happy to accommodate.
And a few new additions to the pond, a large fantail goldfish and a shubunkin! They are quite the pair flitting here and there among the plants.

Spring has arrived, finally in New England...of course it could snow again...but we are optimistic as always! I love the delicate blooms of the Andromeda, precious, and the deer don't like to eat it.
And this just sums it all up. There is a peace in the garden and I soak it in...
The lovely Lamb that graced our Easter dinner...yummy! Yes I know, we are so over Easter but life has been way too busy. I am an early riser, 5:30 AM most days..and off to the garden I go...coffee and a Labrador in hand.
And sometimes we spy the local inhabitants at work eating the lovelies that spring up. It's ok...it's their job...This afternoon we thwarted them by a liberal spray of nasty deer gunk...I cannot tell you how horrid it smells...
And so a happy belated Earth Day to you. I hope you can take the time to step outside, turn off all digital devices and just breath. I promise that you will be blessed by Mother Earth.

and have all sorts of neighbors of the four legged kind.
A tentative look around to see if it's safe..clearly this is the appointed "look out".
These are the triplets and Mom.
If you are a regular reader you may recall they came to do
pond inspection this fall.
Once the all clear is given they march out of the underbrush.
Seems the the trees are tasty too, appetizers!
"Wait what's this?
We watched her fill the bird feeder and put out treats for the rabbits!
Lucky us!"
"I know she's watching from the studio windows...
click, click, geez she's taking pictures, again..."
"Run? I don't think so..the buffet is still open!"
A flurry of activity!
"I can see you but the food is too good, I'm staying!"
This poor yearling is limping badly.
We've heard gun shots recently but I suspect a car-deer incident....
I do hope she makes it through the winter..
"Our work is done, the food is gone...we'll be back later.."
And they were this evening.
